I have finally weaned myself off Hawaii 5-0 (new flavour). The pretty just didn't overcome the irritation any more - the Wo Fat storyline is being beaten into the ground and is, frankly, boring the pants off me. Bringing Steve's mother back from the dead only All Is Not As It Appears *yawns mightily* No, really, didn't see that one coming. Feh. And Scott Caan is STILL being criminally underused. So I watched the first 3 eps and then gave up and haven't missed it even a little bit. Always a sign that stopping watching was a smart move.
I'm still enjoying Covert Affairs, although I occasionally have this overwhelming urge to slap Annie silly. I'm still faintly hoping someone kicks her arse before the end of the season but given next week is the season finale, I'm not holding my breath. Burn Notice is still brilliant and if Sharon Gless doesn't nab an Emmy this time around, 'm going to be Displeased.
Blue Bloods and NCIS:LA are my happy, comfort shows :) And I've resdiscovered CSI:NY, although I suspect that's probably on its last legs. Still watching Criminal Minds but not wild about the new addition to the team, she has almost no chemistry with the rest of the cast at all. The stories have been good so I'm hanging in there. Likewise, still watching Leverage but I think this is going to be the last season and I think that's wise. I tend to save eps up and marathon them now, which usually means 'm falling out of love with a show.
New shows - Arrow. I'm thoroughly enjoying this take on the Green Arrow. It helps that there is a stellar supporting cast and the lead actor is very easy on the eye :D But I like the way they're pacing the mystery of the Arrow's origins and I like the way they're not sugar coating what he's doing. It should get a second season *crosses paws*

It's a pity the whiny sister is so irritating, Willa Holland deserves better.

Yeah, Walter’s around, and he seems nice, but she would’ve been, what 13 or 14 when he and Moira got married? Not a good age to accept a step-parent. And now her brother’s back, but he’s not the idealized big brother she’s been grieving, he’s a real person with flaws, not to mention a killer case of PTSD that he’s refusing to acknowledge. So she’s lashing out at him in a whiny fashion, because he’s not fixing all her problems (too broken to fix his OWN problems, let alone hers). Basically, the entire Queen/Steele family needs therapy by the bucketload, but they’re unlikely to get it.
I don’t read the comics, but someone who does says Oliver’s nickname for her, Speedy, may be significant. Apparently Green Arrow has a sidekick called Speedy in the comics. Which would suggest that Thea will eventually find out her brother’s secret identity, do something useful, and quit whining quite so much. But I totally agree that in the meantime she needs something to do besides juvenile delinquency and guilt-tripping.
I judge Moira more harshly when it comes to the guilt-tripping. She’s a grown-up, and in the pilot she was flat out warned by the doctor that the Oliver they rescued from the island was probably not going to be the same boy she’d known. But I could be judging Moira more harshly because I know she’s mixed up in the Big Conspiracy. But Susanna Thompson (great actress, so happy she’s working again! Especially at an age when it’s hard for actresses to find work) gives Moira some nuance so she’s not just Evil with a capital E.
Also, I’m so happy that Digg is challenging Oliver and not just going along with his revenge gig and “I am the white knight saving the huddled masses of the oppressed” gig. In the episode where Oliver broaches opening the nightclub and Digg is all, “Oh, you think this will actually HELP people living in this horrible neighbourhood?” I had to rewind that conversation twice. And then in the most recent episode where Oliver is all, “I’m not interested in street crime.”
And Digg basically opines that Oliver’s being a spoiled brat wanting to pick and choose who to help when people out there need help regardless of whether he’s interested in their boring crime or not. I was totally cheering Digg on, trying to clear Oliver’s tunnel vision. And I like that the show is ALLOWING their protagonist to come across as blinkered and choosy. He doesn’t magically pick up the bow and become a superhero with super-judgment.

The guy playing Diggle (worst name ever) had a gig on "Blue Blood" when this show came up and he said somewhere that in the pilot his character didn't have a lot to do but the producers assured him that his character was going to be very important as the season progressed so he took the gig. Good call! (And that also reassures me that some serious forethought was given into how to sustain the show's premise. Too often I've seen shows that have been all about the Shiny Big Idea but have struggled to do anything with it. Actually, Hawaii 5-0 new flavour falls into this category.)
I am adoring how Susanna is playing Moira. She could easily be a cartoon villain but both her and the writers are giving her juuuust enough depth to prevent that. I think her retrieving the boat suggests she didn't know about it in advance and wanted proof for later. Dangerous game to play. Also, John Barrowman's role is being nicely judged in terms of what we see and learn. Also also John Barrowman - mmmmm!

That makes total sense. If she knew the boat was sabotaged, then best to leave it at the bottom of the ocean along with its secrets. If she didn't know but merely had suspicions, it makes sense to salvage it secretly so she can confront John Barrowman. Who really needs a name on the show.
VERY interesting about Digg's actor.

It started as something I watched because it was on Netflix Instant View and I didn't have to turn off everytime a kid walked into the room (I watched the first 40 minutes of Battle Royale 5 minutes at a time and I still haven't seen the end of it after four months.) Then the kids started getting into it and it turned into a race to see who could get through all the episodes of season 1 first.
I could have won, if I'd stayed home sick for three days, like someone else. *pout*
I tried Nuevo 5-0 during season 1 (watched years of the original with my Grandma!) What wasn't to love? The scenery. Boomer! Daniel Dae Kim. Scott Caan is grossly underused, you're right. Alex O'Laughlin. *sigh* Was NOT thrilled with Moonlight, and I ate Anne Rice up with a spoon back in the day. He. Just. Doesn't. Work. Not for me, anyway. Kept DVRing it and not watching it until I deleted it from my hard drive.
I haven't gotten a chance to watch Arrow yet. Is Katie Black Canary? I liked her on Supernatural (definitely the better Ruby) and Harper's Island, but she still has a lot to learn.

Yes, Katie is (or rather, will/could be) the Black Canary. I have no idea if she'll actually become that character in the show but they have established that her character can kick serious arse so maybe :)

In a similar vein, but much darker, have you seen "Grimm"? I'm totally hooked on that one.

Unfortunately, I made the mistake of buying a Wii U this weekend. It's going to be a year before I'm allowed near the TV again.

I can see why people compare The Hunger Games to it, but there are a lot of differences as well.
