I scampered out of work early today, mostly because I was bored and I had the flexitime to use so figured, why was I sitting at work when I could be at home?

So I'm home. I've had food, there's about to be a nap, there's cricket and Olympics stuff to watch and Burn Notice has been downloaded. *sighs happily* The weekend's off to a good start :D

Tomorrow, I venture into London to meet [livejournal.com profile] quirkybird, so that's going to be fun. We've not met before, I know her through her cartoons and, obviously, LJ, but she was willing to meet up with a total stranger for food and booze so that works for me :) Should be a fun evening!

And now, I nap! To the bat duvet! *thud snooze*

It's been lovely :D A whole week off *glee* As usual, there hasn't been enough time to do all the nothing I wanted to but I've managed to do a ridiculous amount of loafing nonetheless.

Tuesday was a busy day. At lunchtime I met up with [livejournal.com profile] adelpha in WGC and we had lunch at the Cork. He very kindly treated me and much food was scoffed. I had a huge plate of sausages and mash, while he tried the Cajun Veggie Burger. Tasty :) I was so full, I didn't even get hungry until about 10pm that night :P

After 3 hours of eating and yakking, we parted ways and I went home, briefly, before heading to Stevenage and Cineworld, where I eventually met up with a [livejournal.com profile] thalinoviel. At the second attempt, we finally got to see Beowulf, huzzah! Good movie, once I'd stopped snickering at the unintentional comedy of a nekkid Beowulf fighting Grendel. Completely forgot I was watching CGI a few times, it was that good, and the scenes in the mother's lair are just amazing. Definitely worth seeing on the big screen if you can. I have no idea how close to the story of Beowulf it was, as my knowledge of that work is pretty hazy, but they seem to have fashioned a rollicking good yarn anyway, so give it a whirl :)

After that, there was lots more loafing until today, when I ambled over to the hairdressers and had the mane shorn to a sensible length and tidied so it'll be more manageable. I'm pleased with it, they haven't cut it too short which is often a gripe I have, and it does look good. Plus it's not in my face as much which pleases me :)

And now there's only 2 and a half days of my holiday left. Woe. My life is so hard. Ah well, best get back to it. These Numb3rs dvds won't watch themselves, y'know :D

So yeh, should be asleep really, but I napped earlier for longer than I planned, so I figure another half hour or so won't hurt me :)

Finished "A Play of Lords" on Friday, it was brilliant! It moves Joliffe into far deeper waters now, mixing him with Bishops and Lords and the power players of mid-15th century English politics. It also managed to take a very close look at the work of the players themselves and the business of acting, which I found fascinating. If I have any grouses, it's that the mystery wasn't much of one, in fact, it was hardly a mystery at all. But the book was so interesting, I could forgive it that, although a better denouncement wouldn't have hurt.

Saturday I visited Aunty Eve and the weather co-operated beautifully! We had a lovely meal at The Snoring Owl - I had a smoked haddock kedgeree, yum! - and a good ol' gossip. She's still unsteady on her pins but is looking well in herself. I hope the weather doesn't get any hotter, last year's heat was debilitating. This year, she's coping with summer a lot better.

She did have one close shave - apparently, on Tuesday last there was a vicious cloudburst in Rainham and there was localised flooding. Aunty Eve's front and back lawns were under water but the bungalow stayed dry, thankfully. Her next door neighbours, whose drive slopes steeply towards their bungalow, were flooded out badly, two bedrooms were completely drenched and the garage took a hit, with a lot of electrical tools being ruined. They're covered by insurance, thankfully, but it's such a big mess to clear up. They said, bless 'em, that they'd been keeping a close eye on Eve during the cloudburst and making sure she was staying dry. It is much easier to go home knowing my Aunty has such great neighbours looking after her.

Sunday was all about the loafing, which I'm very good at. There was football and food and napping and loafing on LbN and lots of nuffink. It was a very relaxing day :)
