Scribblings from the Mitchy Side

I'm home! Really pushed it on the drive up from Cornwall and made it to Heathrow in just over 4 hours. Dropped Jenni off at 2pm for her 4.45 flight, so she had plenty of time. Took me an hour to get home but there were no traffic snarl ups so that was good.

Leeds got promoted!! Woo hoo! We were 1-0 down at halftime and playing with 10 men and I was all "ARGH!" but we came back to win 2-1 and secured the second automatic promotion spot! Go us!! *celebrates*

Just caught up on Dr Who as I missed "Flesh and Stone" last week. Not bad, not bad at all. The Angels still freak me the feck out though :P Now I must scamper for some food before tonight's episode comes on. I do predict I'll nap before I settle in for the Football League Show later :D

Oh and despite the reports of more ash disruption, Jenni's just texted me to say that although her flight was delayed an hour, they're now taking off and she's on her way. Hurrah!! :)

Briefly :)

Had an absolutely wonderful time in Baltimore. The weather was hot - reached the 90's on Saturday. Saw two great baseball games, squee'd like a happy fangirly at Tracie's show and ate lots of wonderful food.

The travel to and from B'more was exceptionally painless and the return trip was even better because I shared it with jenni411 :D We're currently at my home and then tomorrow I'm driving us down to Cornwall and the tender loving care of halcyon_shift and doccy.

So, did I miss anything I should know about? :)

I had to resort to another complete reformat and re-install of my PC. No, I still haven't got an external disk drive upon which I have made careful back ups. On the plus side, apart from my email, I didn't have much to lose since it hasn't been that long since I last did this :p And thanks to my shiny, shiny iPod, all my music is safe! Hee!

I've reached the point now where I've got the basics installed and working, and I'm now working on the supplementary items, like games and utilities. If you've sent me an email with any important info prior to today(Hi smokingboot!) could you please resend it? Thanks :)

At least I can get to my beloved internet, which I couldn't do before the reformat - the virus did something very evil to the modem executable files, from what I could tell. Bah. *cuddles her internet*

Tomorrow there will be memes and cute cat photos to make up for the boring techie spam :)

One item though - today I received the most ginormous box of books from jenni411, who clearly spent her time at Bouchercon wisely :D Seriously, it was a fantastic collection and a lot of effort went into it. There's an anthology in there, "Wolfsbane and Mistletoe", which I've had my eye on, and Jenni went to the trouble of nabbing the autographs of as many authors who were there as possible! Hee! I've got Alan Gordon's autograph! Heeee!!

So huge huggles to Jenni, for verily, she rocks :D

Thanks to the ever lovely jenni411, I got a fantastic parcel of goodies today! There was the New York Mets Yearbook, a Pedro magnet and a Davy Wright postcard (from Jenni's Mom), a Pedro badge and 2 Kerry Greenwood proofs. Heee!!

jenni411 is a librarian and she's posted some hilarious snippets from a librarian listserve she belongs to. The thread is titled "Silliest Referenced Questions". Toddle over here and hoot yourself silly. All drinks should be moved well away from the keyboard...

Right. I can do this. OK. *cough* In the earlier entry, I mentioned with fangirly glee that an Ursula Vernon print had arrived. In an email to Ursula yesterday, I said the following:-

Funnily enough, another print I ordered from you arrived this morning. Not remembering I'd
ordered it, I stared at the package blearily, thinking "Wow, that was fast! I only emailed her last
night!"

Remember this, it'll be important later.

So cut to this evening and I see jenni411 on AIM and we get nattering. The following conversation ensues:-

MitchFC: *points to LJ* I've had a fan girly squee couple of days :D
JLS411: Um, yeah, about that....
JLS411: You know that Ursula Vernon print you like so much, the mouse on the log?
MitchFC: yeees?
JLS411: It's a good thing you like it cause you're getting another one. *cringe*
MitchFC: ...
MitchFC: You're kidding? :-)
JLS411: I ordered it for your birthday.
MitchFC: *fdl* Oh that's good :-) Well, two's better than one, right? :D
MitchFC: *hugs her Jenni*
JLS411: *hugs you back* I almost died when I read your LJ this afternoon. :-)

Happy chatter follows, discussion of maybe making a return (shipping costs made that a bad idea, though Ursula was very generous with her offers of refunds/half price for another print etc. when Jenni emailed her about this) and so forth.

And then a small, dim light bulb goes off in my brain. Waaaait a minute. I don't remember ordering it. I DON'T REMEMBER ORDERING IT.

I start to snigger.
I go to PayPal.
I start to giggle.
I check my account history.
I start to laugh.
I only have ONE prior transaction to Ursula's PayPal account, and that's the Digger print I ordered yesterday.
I start to howl. Seriously. I scared the crap out of the cat.

Yes, folks, the reason I don't remember ordering the print was because I didn't order it!

MitchFC: *giggles* Thing is....I don't think I DID order it! I think the one I got was your gifty! But you see, there was nothing IN the order to say it was from you!
JLS411: Oh Gods....
JLS411: I dunno about you but I need an aspirin and a lie-down now...
MitchFC: *rolls back onto the floor, hooting hysterically*

Poor Jenni! ! I am sorry hon, for giving you a nasty surprise this afternoon! Thank you for my lovely birthday present, it's beautiful! And one day, I'll acquire a memory and a brain, honest!
