The splitting headache subsided about 7am, with the aid of tea and food. At least I was in plenty of time for my 9am appointment with Mr Reay Jones, my consultant chap. He's pleased with me, he outlined future options (which I'll detail in a medical filter post, when I'm more awake) which boil down to staying as I am or..not :) There's some research I need to do but there is no hurry whatsoever for me to make a decision. Both options will involve further surgery so waiting a while makes good sense. The only downside is any further surgery would be under the auspices of DrM, whom I didn't like the first time around, because she was a snooty cow :P

Did some shopping on the way home, scoffed some food, watched Private Practice and Criminal Minds and then snoozed for 3 hours and felt a bit better. Made myself a fantastic dinner - I coated a turkey fillet liberally in butter, seasoned it, wrapped it in bacon and roasted it. It came out really well, the meat was moist and flavoursome and very tasty :) I made a warm potato salad to go with and it was scoffed with great enthusiasm. Now I'm just waiting for the apple crumble to cook for dessert. Hurrah!

Bones and Cold Case to watch later on, so life is good :)

So the stoma nurse, Gill, just popped in and I took the opportunity to ask her about her surname and my consultant's surname being the same. They're husband and wife! Bwah! Maaan, I'll be able to get anything I need! Hee. She said that he spoke to her the Friday before my op which is why she was able to get in so fast on the Saturday to give me a pre-op briefing :D

They met 14 years ago when Gill was the ward manager of Ayot Ward at the QEII. They've been married 10 years :) I love stories like this!

Oh, and she's extremely pleased with the way the stoma is healing and it's officially shrunk down, it's now 35mm in diameter :D

So that's all good!

The District Nurse came a little while ago and looked at the bust scar. She says it's clean now so if it was gunking, then better out than in and it looks like it's healing dry. She's put a temporary dressing on it and will call back tomorrow with a more absorbent dressing to put over it.

No stitches needed, hurrah! :)

Been really sluggish today, guess it's just one of those days. Foghorn came by a little while ago with some shopping so I've just had a delicious chicken sarnie and some ready salted crisps. Have I mentioned I've been advised to eat a packet of crisps a day, to replace the extra salt I'll be losing now? Oh, woe is me, my life is so hard *snickers*

In a little while I'll prise myself off the sofa and make tea. That'll perk me up, hopefully :)

Not putting this under the medical filter because it's general.

All day today I've been thinking I had a problem with the bag leaking but I couldn't figure out why. Turns out I was right to be suspicious, it's not the bag. A tiny part of my vertical scar, almost the lowest point, has split open. It's not huge, maybe half a centimetre, but it's gunking which is why I thought the bag was leaking. I didn't see it because I actually have a huge dip there and it's well hidden. It wasn't until tonight when I finally had enough and really took a good look that I spotted it. *headdesks*

Rang the stoma nurses' number but it's an answering machine so no point leaving a message. I was only going to ask if it was something that needed taking care of rightthissecondnow or if a dressing would hold it. Seeing as I don't fancy a trip to the QEII at this time of night, I've hacked up one of the spare dressings they gave me and pasted it over the troublesome area, pulling the skin as tightly together as I can. I reckon that's all I can do until tomorrow but as the district nurse is coming, I'll be able to get assistance and advice by lunchtime.

I reckon me hauling myself up off the sofa is to blame. Either that, or the crazy haul up off the bathroom floor earlier this morning. I did struggle to do that so maybe I did it then. Would explain a lot.

Bother, said Pooh :P
