Today was the final day of the Six Nations Championship. It was all going to come down to which team won their final match by the most clear points. England had an advantage in points but a disadvantage in their opponents, France, who weren't going to roll over. Wales had to beat Italy by an absurb score to stand a chance and Ireland had to beat Scotland which no-one thought would be a problem.

Italy 20 Wales 61

I was making my US friends laugh because I was being inventive with the swear words. "Useless pasta munching cock wombles" got a good response. As a result of that game, England had to beat France by 16 clear points and Ireland had to beat Scotland by 20 clear points.

(At this point I dashed off to the football at Stevenage but kept track of the score via my phone.)

Scotland 10 Ireland 40

FFS. That put Ireland in first place in the Championship, which was something. (Not a fan of Wales :D) Now England had to beat France by 26 clear points. Gnng. Meanwhile Stevenage contrived to lose 1-0. I left early to scamper back in time for England's match. I got in just in time to see England score a try! Woo hoo!

And then France scored two tries in quick succession. There was epic cursing.

And that was the pattern for the match. England kept clawing themselves into touching distance of the title and then helpfully letting France score to keep our nerves jangling. I wouldn't have wanted to be an Irish fan watching that match, it was nerve wracking enough as it was.

Final score....(wait for it)

England 55 France 35. We lost out by six! frickin'! points! Fuck me sideways.

So I reacted like the mature adult I am and sulked and watched old episodes of NCIS while eating chocolate :P

It's not been a good day for sports watching. First my beloved England lost (LOST!) to Ireland in the Six Nations, being well thumped. *grumbles mightily* And then I turned over just in time to see Chelsea score against Spurs in the Capital One Cup. I probably should have stopped watching at that point but no, I had to persist until Chelsea got their second. THEN I turned off. Some days you should just accept that you're a jinx and back away :)

On the plus side, I feel much better today having got some decent sleep and finally stopped with the shivering. Harrumph.

And The Musketeers on Friday was pretty good. Some plot threads are starting to pay off, with the (ex) Captain Treville FINALLY agreeing to tell Porthos about his father, which is going to be the central point of next week's episode. Not before time, mind, they were in severe danger of stretching this out to the point it got tiresome. I'd like to check the historical accuracy of a doctor knowing to sterilise his instruments before surgery at this point in history, but I likes Lemay. I am wondering if they're setting up a romance between Constance and Lemay, given that Bonacieux pretty much cursed her and D'Artagnan :) And as a side note, reeeally glad they got rid of Bonacieux (which I'm probably mispelling but can't be arsed to look up) because he annoyed me intensely.

Rochefort appears to be galloping towards madness now, he's right on that edge. Marc Warren is playing him pretty well, stopping juuust short of over the top (just!) and keeping him interesting. In other news, if his leather trousers get any tighter, he's going to eligible for hazard pay :P

Looking forward to next week's episode!

I had a craving for steak so I went out last night the Beefeater restaurant in WGC. Treated myself to a 10oz rib eye that was cooked to perfection. Sooo full but it was totally worth it :)

Driving home my dash temp guage claimed it was -7 outside. I'm not quite sure it was that cold but it was definitely in the neighbourhood. I had the heating cranked up on high for most of the evening. The France v. Ireland 6 Nations match wasn't on when I got in - apparently it was cancelled 10 minutes before kick off. I felt for the crowd who must have frozen off several appendages in that stadium only to get told "Umm, sorry, we've actually noticed it's rather cold and the pitch is like concrete." Apparently it was also -7 there BUT with a wind chill of -11. o_0 I'm mildly gobsmacked that they didn't just cancel it earlier in the day.

Haven't done much today, watched the Wales v. Scotland game, which was excellent, and Time Team, which was adequate. Downloaded the latest episode of "Blue Bloods" but was disappointed with it. Not up to its usual high standard but still had some fun character moments. Spent some happy time blowing things up in Red Alert and chatting lots with [livejournal.com profile] halcyon_shift. 'Twas a good day :)

My Saturday started a smidge earlier than I wanted, when I was woken up at 5.30am with severe stomach gripes. An hour and a half later, whatever upset my stomach finally deigned to exit. Ye gods. Not the way I like starting a day, glued to the bog! On the plus side, I got to download the latest Numb3rs ep nice and early :)

I did go back to bed around 8.30 am though, because I was a tiredy mouse. Woke up about 12.30 and feel pretty good. Even the throat isn't as annoying, so yay for that. And now I've watched Numb3rs (which was brilliant, it was my favourite kind of episode!), and I'm currently watching the most hilarious rugby match ever. If you don't follow Rugby Union and the Six Nations tournament, let me explain that Italy are considered weak opponents. The five home nations are expected to paste them and usually do, although England made hard work of it a couple of weeks ago. In the four/five years since Italy joined the tournament, they've only won 2 games.

*sniggers a lot*

They're currently thumping Scotland 21-0, having scored 3 tries in the opening six minutes of the match, one from a mis-kick that was intercepted, and two from intercepted passed. I've never seen anything like it, it's comedy gold! *abandons Bones DVD and curls up happily to watch the game*
