Woot!

I'm home! Really pushed it on the drive up from Cornwall and made it to Heathrow in just over 4 hours. Dropped Jenni off at 2pm for her 4.45 flight, so she had plenty of time. Took me an hour to get home but there were no traffic snarl ups so that was good.

Leeds got promoted!! Woo hoo! We were 1-0 down at halftime and playing with 10 men and I was all "ARGH!" but we came back to win 2-1 and secured the second automatic promotion spot! Go us!! *celebrates*

Just caught up on Dr Who as I missed "Flesh and Stone" last week. Not bad, not bad at all. The Angels still freak me the feck out though :P Now I must scamper for some food before tonight's episode comes on. I do predict I'll nap before I settle in for the Football League Show later :D

Oh and despite the reports of more ash disruption, Jenni's just texted me to say that although her flight was delayed an hour, they're now taking off and she's on her way. Hurrah!! :)

Dr Who - in which the Daleks Feel the Rainbow

Yeh, not as good as the first two but still had some good moments. Oh wait, I'd best put this under a cut...

Here Be Spoilers )

So overall, I'm mostly meh. It was watchable just not terribly interesting. And given the enemy, it should have blown my socks off. Still, next week looks verrrrry promising!!

Dr Who The End of Time Pt 2 - no spoilers

I liked it. Yes, yes, I know, I can see the frothing on my flist but I don't care. I liked it. I am LOOKING FORWARD to the Matt Smith era which I wasn't a year ago (shut up, [livejournal.com profile] tyrell and give the guy a chance). I am going to miss Tennant a lot and his scenes with Bernard Cribbens in this episode will rank on any Top Ten List of fave 10th Doc scenes I ever make. I could have wished for less LotR:RotK-style false endings but I can't begrudge the nostalgia because I'm a sucker for it too. Plot holes? Ye gods, were there plot holes big enough to fly a few Tardis's through but I knew that was going to be the case from last week so I had a week to prepare and not care about it :D

Thank you David Tennant for giving us a fabulous Doctor. You had to fill the not inconsiderable shoes of Chris Ecclestone and you exceeded all expectations. Let's hope 11 in 10 is just as good :)

And thank you RTD. There are things you've done I will probably never forgive you for but you brought Dr Who back and there's a whole new generation of fans who wouldn't have existed if it wasn't for you.

Stephen Moffat? To steal a phrase from the ever lovely [livejournal.com profile] cookwitch's DW post - bring it on.

Brrrr!!

Ye gods, it's a bit parky at the moment, isn't it? It was seriously cold around here last night, local temps were around -3, and if the weather forecast is accurate, that could be -4 tonight. It's making me wish I'd invested in some thermal underwear. Ah well, I'll just have to make do with a hot water bottle and a warm, purring cat for heat :)

I've done my shopping for the week, so at least I don't have to go out again this weekend. I can burrow down and make the most of my last two days of freedom before returning to work. On the plus side, I've got a fair amount of holiday to use up before 1st April, so I'm thinking a break in mid-February is going to be called for (possibly encompassing my birthday, oddly enough). So I just have to hang on for six weeks before loafing can resume. I think I can manage that *snickerfits*

Really looking forward to the announcement of the new Dr Who later this afternoon. [livejournal.com profile] jenni411 is away from her compy at the crucial time today and I've had to promise faithfully to text her the news the second I know! Hee! I'm hoping Patterson Joseph gets the nod but this is the Beeb (and RTD), so a surprise is not out of the question. Still, getting a black doctor in the same year as a black US President? I like the symmetry of that :)

Also sort of really looking forward to the American football this weekend. It's Round 1 of the playoffs and the 'Fins are involved (tomorrow). I'm not sure if I can bear to watch :P Brace yourselves - there's either going to be massive amounts of happy squeakings or a bad-tempered, swearword-laden paragraph ranting about incompetent football teams c.f Leeds v. Histon. You've been warned :P

And now I am scampering for hot tea and food! Hurrah!

Bwahah! For the Dr Who fans on my flist...

Another work of genius. Check out the links in that blog to the Tam of Rassilon too, it is a thing of great wonder.

Dr Who - "The Sound of Drums" (no spoilers)

Well, it didn't quiiiite live up to last week's but it was still pretty good. I didn't fidget and get bored like I usually do during RTD's eps and its ramped the stakes up nicely for the season finale next week.

Congratulations to those who correctly worked out how the Dr and co got back to the 21st Century :D

Anyone else suspect things hinge quite a lot on Tish?

Went for a nap at 5.30....woke up half an hour ago. Missed Dr Who. *irritated* I'll have to be careful of my flist until tomorrow evening although everyone's pretty good about hiding spoilers :)

*yawns a bit*

Now I'm wondering if I should stay up for the baseball or if I should have an earlier night. Hrm. I'll have to ponder that one.

Dr Who - "Utopia" (No Spoilers)

OK, I got bored about 20 minutes in, but stuck with it and boy, was it ever worth it. The last ten minutes more than made up for any boredom and having Cap'n Jack back to his snarky best was priceless. Now see, if he'd been like this in Torchwood, I'd have watched more. Maybe.

Derek Jacobi - there's a reason he's a "Sir" :)

Be interesting to see how they get out of this one!

Dr Who - "Blink"

Finally got to watch this tonight - WOW! Great episode, great writing, great cast. Genuinely creepy and scary moments that nearly had me diving behind the sofa. Ahh that was proper storytelling, that wuz.

And RTD didn't write it. Am I surprised? Nope :D

Today was a good day

So this morning I prised my sleepy self up and out early enough to drive to Aunty Eve's. I got there at 10am, which means that I did the WGC to Rainham (Kent) journey in an hour and ten minutes. Given the massive road works between junctions 24 and 27, this was seriously impressive.

Aunty Eve was thrilled to see me as usual (aww!) and we nattered happily until lunch time when I drove us over to Gore Farm and The Snoring Owl for lunch. Mmmm, lunch! I had a superb steak and mushroom crumble, with veggies, with a heavenly cheesecake for dessert. Aunty Eve had fish cakes (home made, looked very nice) with potatoes and a sweet dipping sauce. She surprised me by having dessert and duly disposing of something called "cappuccino dessert cake". Apparently it was less like cake, and more like a sponge pudding and was very tasty! :)

Duly replete, Aunty Eve made a swipe for the bill but I beat her to it and won the ensuing argument about who was going to pay. Bless her, she's on a minuscule pension but she worries about me picking up the tab :) Bill settled, we went around the farm shop, where I indulged in purchasing some cheese from the excellent dairy section, and some gorgeous looking raspberries from the fruit and veg section. ([livejournal.com profile] cookwitch, [livejournal.com profile] thalinoviel, you two would swoon in this place, I should take you both down sometime :) ) Aunty Eve got a few bits and bobs and then we nipped into the gift shop, where I bought another cat magnet for the fridge. I got a black and white one this time, to go with the silver tabby one I got last time ;)

We left and as we were going out, my eye fell on a "Decorate your own terracotta pot" kit that was on sale, half price, for £6. We got to the car, with me still pondering the kit, practically ready to go, when I finally said "No, I gotta go get it, if I don't I'll be sorry later!" So I nipped back and bought it. It looks a fun project, though I plan to ignore the patterns and templates they've included in the kit and design something for myself. It's not a big pot, but it's a good solid one and I want to make it look nice.

Back at home, there was napping for a while and then Aunty Eve made tea before I headed home. It was lovely to see her and she was very perky and cheerful, which was good. The cooler weather is better for her clearly and obviously, my visiting always cheers her up.

Dr Who - minor spoilers for this and next week's ep )

And now I'm watching the Argentina v Mexico game, which is excellent, and pondering tea. There was a [livejournal.com profile] dduane chat earlier that was fun and now I know that there will be a new episode of "The Big Meow" tomorrow to look forward to. I might save it up, in case I need consoling if/when England lose! :)

I've had a good day

*happy sighs*

First of all, it was a Saturday. I can't even begin to list the catastrophes that would have to occur for this to NOT be my favourite day of the week, every week.

Secondly, I went to see Aunty Eve. She looks MUCH better, was clearly feeling more like herself. The news from her doctor's isn't good, they're saying her kidneys aren't working properly, they don't know why. It could well just be "old age". However, they've not dragged her to the hospital or anything, simply taken another blood test. So hopefully it's not something too serious *touches wood* It was just good to see her looking and sounding chirpier. We had a nice lunch at our usual pub, and a snooze and a chat when we got back. And bless her, she surprised me by giving me an Easter Egg! Aww :) Mmm Cadburys

I then headed over to see the Harold Hill Mob :) As usual, my timing was impeccable - the kettle had just boiled, and [livejournal.com profile] itsjustaname was busy making a treacle tart. Glee! Hugs were exchanged with the lovely [livejournal.com profile] cookwitch, there was tea and happy yakking, and then there was a treacle tart! Hurrah!

Got home in time to watch the new episode of Dr Who - very good, I liked it a lot. Much to my distress and in defiance of my long held opinion, Billie Piper proved she can act. Dammit. Now what I can moan about? Oh hang on, she's still annoying. Phew! Tennant is terrific as the doctor and I'm really liking how this Doctor's character is developing. Kudos to the makeup department, too, for the kitty cat make up. Very good, very convincing and made up for the ropey CGI landscape shots at the start of the episode.

Also watched a new episode of NCIS - I do like this show, it's grown on me really fast. Oh hey [livejournal.com profile] itsjustaname? Check this out: *eg*

Cooked some pork loin steaks for tea, that have been marinating in my fridge for over 24 hours. They were dee-licious!

And now I have tea, Match of the Day and friends on AIM.

And two more days off.

*happy sighs*
